This post was ready to happen last week or so, but the death of Dexter Romweber and my inability to have a lunch hour to write in has played havoc with my posting of late so we’re catching up with the moves of John Foxx today.

This was announced recently but I’ve been adrift and unable to post on it. On February 16th, a blue vinyl LP of John Foxx’s excellent “Arcades Project” album of last year was getting a blue vinyl LP release [META75LP] in an edition of 500 copies, so I had better get moving on this if I want a copy! The majority of Foxx’s recent LPs have sold out their press runs and I’d expect this to follow suit rather quickly. Pricing is £23.00/€27.00/$30.00 at the artist’s store on Townsend Records. You know the drill.
FOXX DOWNLOAD OF ELECTRONIC SOUNDS CD TRACK
Last year, Electronic Sound released their 100th issue with a 2xCD of tracks under the “Futurism” title. It was a collaboration with Paul Daley [ex-Leftfield] that stuck out from the direction of the other material they were writing so it got abandoned; perhaps unfairly. The resulting track is now a separate DL easily available on Bandcamp and it now can more widely be heard.
The difference in vibe to recent Foxx material couldn’t be more pronounced. with most of the music bed [apart from the topline melody] sounding like nothing Foxx has released in quite a while. The relentless beat suggested origins in EDM while I appreciated the grinding noise distortion used throughout the track as something of a drone texture. Lyrically, Foxx took inspiration from a viewing of Phil Tucker’s infamous Z-film “Robot Monster” to spin several thematic threads within the song. Why not listen? If you missed the “Futurism” 2xCD from whence this came, then this should be whispering in every Foxx Collector’s ear. Yours for a mere £1.00
FOXXBOOK IN PRE-ORDER
And finally, the pre-order has begun for the new John Foxx monograph of his visual art. The book, in two editions, ships on June 21st and to reiterate the details, here’s the features of each volume.
- John Foxx: Electricity + Ghosts [std.]
- 220 pp. hardcover
- name in edition during pre-order period window
- $55.00
- John Foxx: Electricity + Ghosts [dlx.]
- 220 pp. hardcover
- slipcase variant cover
- autographed by John Foxx
- contains signed Foxx art print, also signed
- name in edition during pre-order period window
- $150.00
We now know the pricing and the standard will be $55 with the DLX at $150. I need to order the DLX ASAP but budgeting will be tricky. In an ideal world I would get both editions but let’s not get carried away here. If you need one of these, then DJ hit that button.

I think I will get the CD (eventually) rather than this lovely looking blue vinyl.
I have not heard this album yet-Avenham really put me off, though I do like The Marvellous Notebook.
I did order the book (regular edition) and cannot wait for that. I have so much Foxx media in my house but there is always room for more.

Gavin – Then maybe you should hold back since I felt that “Avenham” and “The Arcade Project” were of a piece together. Sample at Bandcamp first though I am loathe to “cheat” like that myself.

I’ll stick with my CD of the album. I’m sure blue vinyl will look lovely but I can’t justify buying it for visual reasons. My preferred format, like you Monk, for listening is CD.
I have the Electronic Sound CD and like the track that John and Paul recorded together. I still live in hope that other tracks from the sessions will see the light of day.
I have ordered the deluxe edition of the book. Although the advertised UK price is £120 I got an £8 reduction. Unfortunately it costs over £6 to post. So the saving was pretty much wiped out by delivery costs!

AndyB – My goal is to have every Metamatic number in my Record Cell. So there’s that. And don’t talk to this American about transatlantic postage costs!

Fair enough Monk. The cost of delivery costs have gone through the roof in recent times, both national and international.

The cost of almost everything I want to buy is now exceeded by shipping costs.
