OMD’s Next Single “Look At You Now,” Hits All Three Formats while US Tour Dates For 2025 Manifest

OMD paul humphreys + andy mccluskey
Paul + Andy keep the ties thin 45 years later

So I got an email from the OMD mothership while I was in the throes of calamity about two weeks ago touting the third and final single from the “Bauhaus Staircase” album. As soon as I found some wi-fi, I pounced like a cat on all three formats as I like to own the modern OMD singles even on record, though bless ’em for putting out CD singles! We were flush with cash…why not? What’s the A-side and what do the formats feature?

100% Records | UK | 7″ [mauve] + 12″ [mauve] + CD-5 | 2024

OMD: Look At You Now – UK – 7″ [pink vinyl] [2024]

  1. Look At You Now – 3:20
  2. Tomorrow Is Today – 3:33

The B-side here was the song exclusive to the digital deluxe [one day sale] version of the album that came and went before many even knew about it. The 7″ is on pink vinyl and limited to 1000 copies. £10.00/$14.00

OMD: Look At You Now – UK – 12″ [pink vinyl] [2024]

  1. Look At You Now – 3:30
  2. Look At You Now [Walt Disco Remix] – 4:51
  3. Look At You Now [Andy’s Amarone Afternoon Extended Mix]
  4. Look At You Now [Live In Edinburgh]

The 12″ is also on pink vinyl, with four different versions of the A-side. The remix is by North American Tour opener Walt Disco [?] but Andy’s own extended old school mix also figures in there. Along with a live version. Also 1000 copies but at £15.00/$20.00, this one is already sold out.

OMD: Look At You Now – UK – CD-5 [2024]

  1. Look At You Now – 3:30
  2. Tomorrow Is Today – 3:33
  3. Look At You Now [Andy’s Amarone Afternoon Extended Mix]
  4. Look At You Now [Walt Disco Remix] – 4:51
  5. Look At You Now [Live In Edinburgh]
  6. Look At You Now [inst.]

The CD-5 is of course, the format with the most copies, the most tracks, and also the lowest cost. Go figure. 1500 copies at £8.00/$11.00 and still available. If you really want that pink 12″ [a throwback to Hambi Haralambous [r.i.p.]?] there are still bundles of all three discs available for £30.00/$40.00. So DJs hit that button!

Post-Punk Monk buy button

I bought this single without thinking and when I thought about it, I couldn’t even remember the song. When I played it this week, I thought to myself, “oh yeah…that one.” Even the sleeve designs for this entire album campaign have been some of the worst OMD sleeve art ever. So it’s doubly underwhelming. Scuttlebutt has posited “Bauhaus Staircase” as the last OMD album with this poised to be their final single, and if so, they should have put this one out second to have “Kleptocracy” have the final word on the OMD career.

Look At You Now” is not prime OMD goods, but if you think they’ll go off gently into that good night after scoring a number two on the UK album charts with “Bauhaus Staircase, ” I’ve got some prime Asheville property in the flood plain that I’ll let you have cheaply. I think those guys are hooked, but if they make another album, it had better be worth more than the tepid “Bauhaus Staircase.” Meanwhile, they come once more to the shores of North America for their tour next summer. New dates added due to sellouts.

Since there’s no hype that this is the FINAL TOUR!!! I’m guessing the notion of their last album being just that has been quietly tabled following its commercial success. If that were the case, I might be tempted to catch them in Atlanta. The Buckhead Theatre is a nice venue! But we’ll be sitting this one out unless cosmic gears shift of their own accord. The new album only has one song I’d want to hear live, anyway. And I’ll bet that they still don’t play any “English Electric” tracks on this tour as well. I’m also amazed at them once more playing Orlando at the venue that now seem to soak up all of my old fave core collection acts that never used to play in Florida, much less in O-town itself! So let’s appreciate this slow, stately turn of events, now that I’ve managed to move to a different cultural backwater town that will no doubt be getting hologram shows of all of my favorite bands only when I’m gibbering into a drool cup in my dotage.

Look at you now is ok – I like the B-side better (Tomorrow Is Today) and bought the CD single for that as it is not on the actual album CD. I have tix to Orlando as they nixed the St Pete gig….I agree that Bauhaus Staircase is not one of their best, however, it is quite OMD-like in many ways. You can tell Andy and crew have had some other influences rub off on them. I think their best is Punishment of Luxury then Architecture and Morality – I like English Electric a lot, too. Dazzleships is avant garde still. I also love the Navigation CD which has all the B-sides. I’ve found their B-sides tend to be the most interesting…as for live – they are outstanding as a live band. In the last thre eyears I’ve gone to never seeing them to probably 20-25 shows under my belt. Hands down the best show was the Royal Albert Hall 40th anniversary – they played all kinds of older stuff – was great. Next were the two shows in Spain (Madrid/Barcelona) in 23….that Spanish crowd is amazing. There was a nice show in Germany under a tarpish arrangement that was good – not too loud. The other UK shows weren’t as good as the ones I mention above. It will be interesting to see them in the USA and Australia (yes, I bought a ticket for a show there…gets me to go to Australia sooner rather than later as I’m *not* getting any younger and have a tendency to procrastinate – may add a Perth show – that venue looks like Red Rocks in Colo Spgs). I have two Greek Theater tickets (great venue!), and Austin City Limits and Orlando….

I too have found the album a bit hit and miss, Monk. Certainly not as good as the last few releases.

I’ve watched a few interviews with Andy and Paul on YouTube. Certainly Andy has said this may be their last album but they certainly intend to continue touring and the odd single or EP may still get released at some point.

I watched a recent interview with Paul and he was saying how much he loves writing with Andy. So I wouldn’t put it past them releasing another album at some point. We may just have to wait longer for it.

I’d wait five years (Simple Minds have this down to a science) for the next album but at that long it should be a corker! Both the latest albums from them and OMD were lackluster after a string of stronger ones prior. We shall see.

        Indeed we will see.

I too would be happy to wait longer for a decent album.

Andy and Paul have both said that they work better when in the same room together. However most of this album was recorded separately. Andy on the Wirral and Paul in the south of France. Perhaps that explains why the album hasn’t met recent standards for us.

Walt Disco were the support when we saw OMD at Leeds in the UK earlier this year. Amarone is an excellent Italian restaurant in Edinburgh, not sure if this is where the name for the remix comes from.

Sorry, what do you mean “3rd and final single”? This is the 5th, an almost absurd gesture from a group that actually forced Dindisc in 1982 NOT to release the gorgeous ‘She’s Leaving’ (of all the times to FIGHT a record label’s decision and actually overthrow it!), and with a number of possibles others over the years, but namely, like with most of the best acts, just 3 usually come off an album yet with this album the title track came first, then the dismal, clumsy and derivative ‘Slow Train’ (contender for worst OMD single choice ever, even worse than ‘Everyday’ & ‘If You Want It’ & ‘Metroland’ & ‘We Love You’), followed by ‘Veruschka’, and then ‘Kleptocracy followed at beginning of this year, but also ‘Don’t Go’ dumbly turns up on the album, even though it was made as a standalone single to promote a box set in 2019! That’s the equivalent of putting ‘Dreaming’ from 1988 on his debut solo CD! Then 9months later they want ANOTHER single off the album.

Granted it’s another lovely choice of a great album overall, but come on, why is this albu being pillaged for singles, they should be working on something new now and worse, there’s no Paul vocal at all-he often (but not always gets one song an album, but since their 2006 return, is rarely there vocally and worse, when he is, ne never gets singles no more. I mean ‘Stay With Me’ has single written all over it, and to me it IS! Just like I did with ‘Promise’ in 1980, otherwise what’s the point, Andy gets all the rest.

I don’t agree with the verdict of others here, it’s a very fine album, though a Paul vocal is severely lacking on it, plus ‘Don’t Go’-a fine song in its own right, shouldn’t realy be on here, and ‘Slow Train’ almost makes we want to kill Andy; he takes the worst song on an album that’ll surely getting nothing else of it as there’s no singles market and no one decent gonna release CD singles any more, but as it happens, there’s so many singles knocked of this album I can almost ignore the bloody thing, and ‘Look At You Now’ is one of the charming songs I got into 1st. As this stage only ‘Anthropocene’ is the remaining killer not a single. I do admit though that ‘G.E.M’ is less than pleasing too on the album, but overall really good, but lacking Paul song. But I am jazzed lovely B-side ‘Tomorrow Is Today’ will now get a CD place.

I really hope it’s not the last OMD album, I’m thinking it is because of what both have said in relation to the future being likely to “callobrate with/and or write for others” which is disappointing in the extreme, and because they’re spending a year releasing singles from it and no one does this any more from the 80s unless you’re a lousy or overrated act. They’ll continue to tour I’m sure, but I think any possible pure OMD new work is now sadly at an end. I really HOPE I’m wrong amid the bad signs.
