Speaking Of China Crisis, Get Ready For An Expanded 10th Anniversary Reissue of “Autumn In The Neighbourhood”

So yes, we finally saw China Crisis live as part of the Lost 80s Live tour, and now we are happy to report that the still scarce, self released album “Autumn In The Neighbourhood,” will get a 10th anniversary reissue. The initial release from Pledge Music was a get it there or nowhere else event for quite a few years. Eventually, I found someone online who had an extra copy they were willing to sell me and I was thrilled to hear that this was better than “the old magic is back.” This was the finest China Crisis album yet!

But I was lucky that the seller of my copy was selling for below aftermarket value! Copies were changing hands before 2020 at rising targets and then that year, after Gary Daly had worked with Music Glue to market his solo albums, the band made “Autumn In The Neighbourhood” available there for a time. But that time came and went. And now the CD is once more selling for $50-80 a CD copy. The LP? Twice that! Minimum.

Enter the non-profit label Last Night From Glasgow with the news that they will reissue the album on a label for the first time ever. Both earlier pressings were of band origin. But on November 11th, 2025, the tenth anniversary version will be available for your purchase in CD and LP formats.

  • Sky Blue LP – original album – $40.00
  • Forest Green 2xLP – w/10 bonus tracks – $50.00
  • 2 x CD – w/10 bonus tracks – $23.00

I’ll be sitting out the records, but the double CD has my name all over it. I am fascinated by hearing that ten new, unheard songs will be on offer this time. If you’re old school like me, that’s another whole album of material. The mystery, at this juncture, is that no one is describing these ten songs in any way, shape, or form. LNFG’s page on the reissue is annoyingly mum on the details. But the wonder of it is basically this…who cares! It’s ten China Crisis songs we didn’t previously have! How can it be anything other than wonderful?

And I have to say that the CD shipping from Scotland was a scant $7.79 for the double CD! With approximately double that for the 2xLP to The States. So three cheers for Scotland’s thrifty postal rates. Apparently it’s not all punishment and pain the world over on shipping. Last Night From Glasgow are ready with pre-order and the copies should be shipped as early the beginning of October. DJ hit that button!

I was lucky enough to score the CD version of Autumn in the Neighbourhood at one of China Crisis’ shows at Yoshi’s in Oakland about four years ago. However, I could not pass up the 10th anniversary green vinyl version with the unreleased songs. So psyched for its release this fall!

Hasn’t LNFG been promising new remasters of the older output for ages?

Autumn in the Neighbourhood really is a fine album! It’s great that its on the streaming platforms or I’d likely never have given it a try.

seanoduill – Well LNFG has reissued the first and third albums on LP only. Why no “Fire +!Steel,” I wonder aloud. Then they’ve issued BBC session albums and CDs. But if you have the DLX RM CDs of the Virgin albums you have the material already. The new remix album “China Greatness”’on LP/CD and a live LP/DVD “Possible Pop Songs Live.” From a 2005 performance. So that’s five titles already, though three are LP only.

I quickly jumped on board the pre-prder months ago despite the exorbitant shipping cost to Australia.

I wonder if the extra tracks are demo’s or perhaps the one off tracks they did for one-off compilations (their cover of Carole King’s It’s Too Late for example) One thing for certain is here’s hoping “extra” track Everyone You Know is correctly appended to the main album – it was a bonus track provided to Pledge purchasers and was appended to subsequent vinyl reissues as well as the digital release. It’s perhaps the best track on an already strong album.

It was the description on the page for their 1st album (https://shop.lastnightfromglasgow.com/products/china-crisis-difficult-shapes-and-passive-rhythms) that had me thinking all the albums would be getting re-released. And, I think (perhaps wrongly) that this meant they would all be remastered and would include CDs. I actually don’t own any of the albums :-) though I had some on cassette once upon a time. I’d love to get some newly remastered CDs, most of the albums are worth it!

    Hi Mr Monk,

Thanks for the post on the Lost 80’s concert. I’m a fan of most of those bands and would like to see it come here. Not sure about Big Country, I mean while I am a great fan of the music, I’m not sure having only the drummer as the original member as the band qualifies as being the “band”, more a tribute act I would think. Nothing against drummers and Mark Brzezicki is a very good one…but well I’ve just rewatched This Is Spinal Tap.

Rightly or wrongly once a much loved band loses the frontman it never is really the same…

I am very much looking forward to the re-release of Autumn In The Neighbourhood. I got in on the pledge though don’t recall being sent the pledge track “Everyone You Know”. I’ve since found it on QOBUZZ and will add it to the album on my phone.

I did ask for track listing from LNFG but got a response along the lines of “we know something you don’t keep an eye on the website”. I’m too old for that carry on, or maybe I jut overthought the response. Overthinking is one of my strong suits.

Anyway after reading your post I’ve gone on the site and ordered it. While there, and apologies if I’m preaching to the already converted, but there is a new album coming out by Steven Lindsay. He of course was the main force behind The Big Dish, who released three great albums in the 80’s & early 90’s. Steven has also two great solo albums out as well, one of which includes an interesting cover of “Monkey Gone To Heaven” by the Pixies. He’s well worth checking out if you don’t already know about him. Have a great weekend!

Paul Brown – Welcome to the comments! Actually I was right on “Swimmer” by The Big Dish as soon as it was released in the dire mid-80s and I felt that the album fit right into that zeitgeist. I have to say that I didn’t care for it at all and sold it off quickly. I didn’t even remember Steve Lindsay’s name! It’s hard to believe but not all Scottish bands were ace [just most of them]. I felt that The Big Dish were about Deacon Blue weight. Missable, in my book. My least favorite China Crisis album, “Flaunt The Imperfection” skirts the perimeters of such vibes [at it’s weakest: see “You Did Cut Me”] for my ears. For the record I enjoyed “From Big Country” a lot more than than the original lineup if I didn’t make that clear enough. The singer and bass player were just that much better in my opinion.

Really looking forward to this 10th Anniversary release. However it’s actually a SINGLE CD release (or a double vinyl), and the tracklist or a slight variant of it is confirmed by this mispressed advance copy available at a China Crisis live performance of the “Autumn in the Neighbourhood” album: https://www.discogs.com/release/35325877-China-Crisis-Autumn-In-The-Neighbourhood-10-Year-Anniversary-Edition
