UK’s Record Store Day 2024 Still Surprises

There were so many things of interest in the US that that I wondered… if the US was getting the Core Collection likes of OMD and Ultravox, what, if anything, would be UK-only items of interest? I needn’t have worried, because the UK will be getting more than its share of desirable goods, even if they are all [rolls eyes] on vinyl records.

BRYAN FERRY

The Right Stuff blue vinyl 12″

Sure, sure. I have the CD5 of this from 1987, but the new 12″ will feature one more track. The exclusive Johnson Somerset remix in his lush, widescreen style. When is he going to have a box of his remixes compiled for our towntempo vibe extravaganzas?

THE CRAMPS

Ultra Twist pink + purple vinyl 12″

Here’s an embarrassment for America. Our rebels only get respect overseas! The Cramps “Ultra Twist” which I have on CD5 and promo CD5 with exclusive edits, it getting the love on 12″ again. As it has nothing I don’t already have, I don’t need it…but I respect it!

NINE HORSES

Snow Borne Sorrow DLX RM white vinyl 2xLP

A.K.A. the only album David Sylvian has released in the new millennium that I actually loved! Reissued here with B-sides [from CD singles] and a new remix on LP only.

LORA LOGIC

Pedigree Charm DLX RM fluorescent pink + green 2xLP

The spunky first Lora Logic solo album was a winner. Now it’s got non-LP B-sides and a 12″ mix of “Wonderful Offer” added as well as all new, unreleased Peel Sessions to round it out. How I wish this was on the silver disc.

MIDGE URE

The Gift [Early Versions] Eco-Jazz Recycled LP

The demos of the first Midge Ure solo album were already on the silver disc for the DLX RM on CD issued last year. And it’s on the dubious “Eco-Jazz” recycled vinyl. But the devil is in the details; there’s one track added to this LP that’s previously unreleased…gotcha!

THE MIGHTY WAH!

Heart As Big As Liverpool heart shaped red vinyl 12″

No word on the full contents of Pete’s anthem, but plus several hundred points for sheer form!

PETER MURPHY

Peter Live – Vol. 1 Covers colored vinyl LP

A live album of covers as sung by Peter Murphy. A great thematic collection featuring songs by: Iggy Pop, Joy Division, Elvis Presley, Magazine, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Prince & Pere Ubu.

PROPAGANDA

Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse (Volume 1) red vinyl LP

This one hurts! I’ve already missed other Propaganda RSD reissues, and this one looks to be the first volume of the long-mooted in my skull [taps cranium] comp of every “Dr. Mabuse” mix known to mankind. I have been planning “Dr. Mabuse: The Motion Picture” as at least a 2xCD-R of my own for years. This looks like the first of an installment plan, LP-only version. But it’s Propaganda! And I still want it!

Of course, this year the shiny goodies of RSD UK won’t necessarily taunt me from 3000 miles away with their exorbitant third party prices [over already exorbitant initial prices] and stratospheric postage costs! I will actually be in the UK for RSD this year! So there’s a chance that I might be able to move on at least a few of these. Watch this space…

Hi Monk, you may already know this but in addition to the RSD Heart As Big As Liverpool release, Pete Wylie is releasing a Wah greatest hits package on March 1, “Teach Yself Wah! – A Best of Pete Wylie and The Mighty Wah!”

meederr – It can be yours if you’ve got deep pockets. Everything has its price. The question is, are we willing to pay it? My thoughts are shaped by decades of relatively inexpensive discs. In the streaming universe, this makes collectors an aberration.
