John Foxx Plans Rare Solo Piano Set In Hannah Peel’s Radio 3: Night Tracks Live Concert

Foxx has now scheduled the solo piano performance I had been anticipating

In 2020, I had a trip planned to the UK to see the Heaven 17/Human League concert before the pandemic scuttled that one for me. While such a show was really a thing of wonder, my greatest fear at the time was that once I committed to that time to actually take a trip to the UK to see a show, that John Foxx + The Maths would then undertake a UK tour for their “imminent “Howl” album causing me conflict. As much as I adore the first two Human League albums, my strongest impetus to travel to the UK at this time in my life would be to see Foxx perform. But that didn’t happen.

What is happening is that now that we have bought tickets for a Nits show in Amsterdam in April of 2024, and have committed to a Euro/UK vacation next spring, Foxx will be playing the first show of his in five years by my reckoning. And either Foxx or The Nits were at the top of my list not to ever miss live. Ah well.

Hannah Peel has come a long way from making music box OMD covers

MS. PEEL WE’RE NEEDED

Hannah Peel has had her reputation grow tremendously from when I first heard of her; with the “Rebox” EP of Synthpop covers arranged for music boxes. She’s scored dance work for Pina Bausch’s troupe, arranged strings for Paul Weller, been a member of John Foxx + The Maths, and scored many a film and television series. Since 2019 she’s been the presenter on BBC3’s Night Tracks, and now she’s curating a four hour concert presenting many of her favorite musicians in the Sound Unwrapped show coming up this fall.

The program will include John Foxx performing solo piano work as well as Hatis Noit, Maya Youssef, Ruisi Quartet, and Shida Shahabi. The program will be four hours with intermission and is being held at the Kings Place arts center. Tickets have already gone on sale and will be £30.00 for the show being held in Hall One with 6:30 p.m. doors on Saturday, October 28, 2023. Obviously, I won’t be making it, but I encourage any fans to get this now rare glimpse of the silver Foxx exercising his acoustic music muscles this time out. For ticketing…DJ hit that button.

I ended up ordering the solo piano CD after all, and it really is quite exquisite.

Of Foxx’s recent two releases I assumed that ‘Avenham’ would be the better. More synthesizers. I was wrong. ‘The Arcades Project’ really is exceptional. A truly beautiful album. Definitely highly recommended.

  3. I’m thrilled that John is still willing to perform, though I appreciate the rigours of touring with even a synthpop “band” might be more than he’s willing to do anymore. As with you, to see the Nits and John Foxx live are two of my biggest hopes, but sadly neither the latter nor the former were ever touring in the right countries at the right time for me to see them previously. The Nits even toured Canada once, though of course I wasn’t there then.

It’s a little sobering to get to the point where you begin to accept that you may not complete your musical “bucket list,” but I am very determined to at least speak to the great Mr. Foxx at some point in the world of the FUTURE (TURE ture …)™, having done so with another of my synthpop musical heroes, Heaven 17!

It’s good to have goals. :)

chasinvictoria – I remember the one time we saw that The Nits were playing in Montreal. It was 2002 when I was going through the wringer of unemployment and we were stretched awfully thin!

    Got my ticket for this.
Foxx’s last two albums have been fantastic
“The Arcades Project” is the real revelation.

Ljohnfoxx – Well, I’m glad to hear that someone has a ticket for this one! And I still don’t see when I will have the money to get the two new Foxx CDs. I should probably not wait until they are OOP!
