A while back we were discussing that DEVO so-called “farewell tour.” It would be remiss of me not to mention that Booji Boy himself has disputed the notion of a big wrap up for the prophetic spudboys. Chasinvictoria sent the image above to me a week or two ago and it’s hard enough to even post these days much less follow up with a correction, but that’s what I’m doing tonight. So if you’re like me and have yet to see the quintessential New Wave band, then maybe there’s still hope for us.

It’s curious, as Mark has always looked and sounded like he’s just dialling it in now. I’m sure this tour is motivated more by $$ than art.

theminordian – I seriously doubt that Mark is motivated by the money to be made playing in DEVO as he’s been scoring soundtracks for the last 37 years. That sort of Hollywood money makes the rock music world look like the sub-par loan-sharking knockoff that it is. DEVO seems like a lot more effort [particularly touring!] for what is comparatively chump change.

Agree, and don’t think its Mark who needs the $$, more like Gerry and Bob1.

theminordian – Now that’s possibly a thing!

It really didn’t look like that at the Hammersmith Apollo recently! He seemed very engaged.

Hear, hear! They were quite energetic – they rocked that place and I was in the nosebleed seats. Great show and beautiful theater. So funny to see all of oldsters with our concert gear on and singing and dancing, albeit a bit more slowly. Plus, Rusty Egan doing the DJ bit beforehand with great 80s songs was a plus.

Deserat – It’s not a stretch to say that Rusty Egan’s taste helped to define the music of the 80s.

Post Script, I just shelled out big bucks for the new 50th packs as well…

Tim – Including a three figure DLX LP set…and really, is not the reappearance of the LP one of the biggest signs that De-Evolution is real? Apart from racism and fascism, of course!

It’s a farewell tour. They just don’t want to market it as such. The band isn’t going to tour after this. Heck I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t play live again or release anything after 2024 (with the exception of reissues or box sets). The Hardcore tour in … 2014 (?) was spearheaded by Bob2, and the band soldiered on after his death to honor him. This time, well, I think this is more Gerry pushing things in general. A last hurrah, not to let it just peter our and fizzle but go out with a bit of a bang. From what I understand he would make new DEV-O music (or Muzak) but Mark seems to be the reticent one.
