It’s hard to believe that it has already been nine months ago when the CD by The Countess Of Fife was first released, but the silver disc barely counts for anything these days, and the LP version finally happened courtesy of This Last Night In Glasgow about three weeks ago. And gloryoski, once the album was released, the sales and popularity of it were quite brisk! How brisk? Enough to chart very respectably on four different charts. To wit:
- # 7 Scottish Album Chart
- # 2 Indie Breakers Chart
- # 21 UK Album Chart
- # 18 in UK Indie Chart
So a hearty “huzzah” to The Countess and her band who have issued a new single [the third] from the “Star Of The Sea” album to mark the occasion of its release. And this one has been remixed for the occasion. Giving the fans a little something extra since the days of 7″ B-sides are still scarce even in the current vinyl record bubble.
The twangier, 4:00 album mix has had half a minute shaved from it to tighten it up for more impact. Only a few seconds were edited from the intro but they were the right ones as the urgency that was injected into the formerly leisurely pace was brought into sharper focus. Taking the deep cut decisively into the single spotlight. The acoustic guitars have been brought down in the mix with the electrics gaining the upper ground. The dreamy middle eight has the circulating guitar feedback adding its mystery as the girl group harmonies of Ms. Fife together with Kirsten Adamson still prove that her love and grasp of the Pop classics have not let her down yet. Listen in and buy the DL below.
FRINGE DWELLERS
And The Countess is not resting on her laurels. She and her band have secured a spot in the lineup of the Mother of all Fringe Festivals: Edinburgh Fringe. Readers who plan on attending the event should carve out a berth in their Friday night schedule in the 10:30-11:30 pm spot for the band, who are onstage in the Gilded Balloon Patter Hoose. Tickets are a modest £15-17.00, Comrades, so anyone in motorbike distance should make it happen.
