Last February I was excitedly writing about a complete Roxy Music boxed set with remastered CDs of every studio album enhanced with the full complement of rare tracks and the crown jewel: four DVDs with two albums each on them mastered in 96/24 2.0! Like many, The Monk gets wrapped up in the hurly burly of life and work and the April 2 release data came and went without this release darkening any record store doors. I almost thought that the elaborate press release may have been an ill-timed April Fool’s gag, since never has any mention of these been made on the official Roxy/Ferry websites. Today, with little time for blogging, I thought that the time was ripe to investigate this non-phenomenon.
What I found is a mismash of conflicting retailer information, most of which suggests that the high-res remastering of the Roxy Music canon has been spiked, resulting in the downscaling of the set as a 10-pak of mere CDs. As seen on the EMI Canada website here. EMI Canada posits eight straight CDs with a 2xCD of bonus tracks as shown in the photo above. Yet, here’s a French retailer who says that the 4x DVD-As are still a go, with the bonus tracks appended to each album and the 4xDVD-As still included in the set. Troublingly, they are the source of the display photo above which clearly shows only 10 discs and no DVDs. Here’s a UK retailer who sets the release date as August 6, without any DVD-As. Finally, what does the 8000 lb. gorilla of web retailing have to say on the subject? Amazon is tightlipped about the whole thing, but at least gives a domestic price range that is fair enough for the CD only version. What’s the truth amid all of this skullduggery?
Let The Monk offer a hypothesis. As I theorized earlier, the complete box is a nice product for the uninitiated. They are being pitched the CD box in August with a rigorously complete complement of remixes, alternate tracks, and B-sides. The fanatics will be served with elaborate boxed sets in the $100 zone for each album. They will come with T-shirts, key chains, DVDs of video footage, and what have you but the high-res audio will be a part of these sets. It’s my hope that the amazing BBC sessions and live recordings will also be there for that kind of coin. We shall see.

![Want List: Visage DLX RM […finally!]](https://i0.wp.com/postpunkmonk.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/visage-dlxrmuscda.jpeg?resize=200%2C200&ssl=1)

I have a slightly different hypothesis, Monk… that the person who claimed there would be the DVD-As of these fantastic albums was high on crack!

chas_m – Then EMI employs crackheads, since this was from an official press release. As seen quoted here:

Querried a friend who keeps “in the know” when it comes to all things Roxy. This was the reply I received:
Does the below bit answer your question?
There will also be exclusive individual albums coming out on the anniversary of each album. I’ve written a small piece that may (or may not!) be included on the Roxy Music one about the day my Dad brought an advanced copy of the album home. There will be very rare stuff included.

Echorich – So… on the 40th Anniversary of each RM album, there will be a DLX album box full of elaborate extras? It makes sense, but it also means that the program will take a decade to complete. In 2012 $100 boxed sets make economic sense to someone. Who can say where the industry will be in ten years? Hmm. Hmmm, indeed.

I completely agree. I figure it’s another project that will lose steam before its complete.

Echorich – Believe me, ten years from now no one will be buying $100 DLX RM boxes! No one will be able to afford them!!! Roxy’s 1st generation fans will be in their seventies. All of their money will be going to health care, and keeping the Walton Six in the manner to which they are accustomed.
