Unfortunately, bassist supreme Mick Karn has succumbed to the cancer he was diagnosed with last year. He died a half hour ago at his home in London where he had moved to for treatment from his native Cyprus. He is survived by his wife and son. I was just at Duran Duran.com to see what was up and John Taylor had already posted his tribute to Karn, as well he should. We all know the group might not exist but for the influence that Japan had on them. So it’s time to go home and put on “Quiet Life” with the lights on low.

Karn was a fantastic bass player – instantly recognizable – something that can’t be said for many bass players. A great loss.

A sad day, his contribution to many records I enjoy was significant.
