Well, well. Not much drama here. I’ve been remastering my LP of “Correspondence,” so it’s one of the five tracks that I didn’t previously have on CD that’s gotten stuck in my head. “Window Shopping” is a zippy little electro-Latin number in the vein of “Emotional Disguise” albeit more suave and less stentorian. According to what I’ve been able to research, this was a single in the Netherlands only, with “The Art Of Love” relegated to B-side status on this single. I can only find references to a 7″ single so no extended version seems available.
Nevertheless, it’s a single-worthy number with the massively catchy Latin rhythm intro it sports and Godwin’s relaxed vibe on his vocals. Georg Kajanus’ production sets the song right smack dab in the middle of 1983, with creamy synths jostling for dominance with the everpresent Linn Drum Computer. When a record captures the sonic zeitgeist so effectively as this one does, it becomes a musical time capsule of sorts, and that’s not a bad thing in my book. Especially when the songcraft is as assured as it is here.

Georg Kajanus = Sailor, with several albums on CBS/ Epic. I think he’s Danish, but Sailor were considered British. Fun ’75 UK pop!

Georg Kajanus also = DATA! I only recently heard this band after seeing their album “Elegant Machinery” quite often in the early 80s. I need all of their stuff!!!!! It’s got my name writ large on it.

Gavin – Welcome to the comments! Yes, DATA are a grievous omission in the Record Cell! I recall seeing the “Elegant Machinery” album as it got a U.S. release at the time, but back then, I knew nothing about it and never heard the band. It was not until a few years ago that this was rectified! Mea culpa! Yet another amazing thing in the ever expanding want list!
