The kettle’s on the boil for Fay Fife and her alt-country project The Countess Of Fife this July. Summer’s here and the time is right for dancing in the streets. The Glaswegian band make their first assault on the capital city of London this Friday, July 5th with a show at the famous Hope + Anchor. Sharing the bill is John Ellis of Vibrators/Stranglers/Peter Gabriel fame.
Then the Scots combo are also on the bill the next day, for the Sign Of The Times Festival, in Hertfordshire, with a host of other Monastic era acts such as Toyah, The Waterboys, The Alarm, and Ned’s Atomic Dustbin. They play the Big Top stage on Saturday, July 6th, at 2:00-2:40 so forewarned is forearmed.
Finally capping off their weekend assault on the UK is their show at The Crescent in York. At 7:30-9:oo on Sunday, July 7th. Tickets to the club shows are available…
But this burst of activity also surrounds a new single by The Countess. She’s not been standing idle after releasing their debut album, “Star Of The Sea” in 2022. The band have released a new single that is currently available at their Bandcamp store. “Angel In My Pocket” was a track from the earlier sessions that didn’t quite gel at the time but it’s been newly recorded and will be added as a bonus track to the new blue vinyl re-pressing of “Star Of The Sea” coming in the August-September window from the preternaturally busy record label collective Last Night From Glasgow. Who seem to have their hand in every other release I want these days.

Countess Of Fife: Angel In My Pocket – SCOT – DL [2024]
- Angel In My Pocket
“Angel In My Pocket” was a heartfelt blend of Brian McFie’s twangy guitars and reedy Farfisa organ from the Countess herself. The powerful tremolos on the middle eight where Fay and band member Kirsten Adamson harmonize added a redemptive vibe to the bittersweet number.
If you’re like me and already have the CD, the DL is a nice bonus to tide us over until the next Countess album. I’ve already bought mine, but it’s yours for a mere £1.00, but the joy of Bandcamp is that you can always top up your purchase. If you would prefer to have your music on wax, the cut will be a bonus track on the second pressing of “Star Of The Sea,” now in preorder for a August-September release for $32.00 from Last Night From Glasgow. DJs, hit those buttons!
