As a grizzled veteran of many a US and Canadian Fringe Festival tour, I can tell you that the Edinburgh Fringe is a) the place where this daring experiment in low-cost, non-mainstream theatre began and b) still the best and the Mecca of any true Fringe festival performer or enthusiast.
