postpostmoderndad – I was amazed at the US sleeve with the airbrushed heart painted around the photo of Debbie. The tiny 7 pt. copy at the left of her image saying “Deborah Harry of Blondie” was a weird touch. And its not the best photo of her in that Stephen Sprouse dress; it looks atypical. And the overpainting was super literal. In retrospect, I can’t believe that US Chrysalis let that one out. My favorite? The Mexican PS with the whole band and the titles in cyan with the band logo knocked out on the black stripe.
Hi mr. monk,
i have several of these, i like the progresssion through the decades, and even the 80’s and 90’s versions have their appeal, along with some of the remixes.
i was confused by the one that had the title, and 11:59, and was think there was some super long version, but that’s another song from them. the one at the very bottom right, is the most common, but of course, i had to find the italian version with the exclusive 9 min mix on it. that might be the hardest one to find nowadays.
negative1ne – The Italian 12” cost a lot and reviews have not been particularly kind to its technical achievement. But real fans need those unique mixes that appear only in a certain country. It was a happy day when I finally found a copy of Bowie’s “Beauty + The Beast” extended US 12” after wanting it for 20 years… 22 years ago.
I’m so happy that my collecting mania doesn’t extend to every sleeve variation of every country – just give me a US and/or UK version unless there’s a distinct mix found elsewhere. Even Blondie (my #1 artist) is not exempt from this…altho to be completely honest, I do own 7 or 8 of the records pictured in the wall of glass!
Taffy – I was there for a few years with Duran Duran. I felt at the time [1992-95] that here was a group that I liked, and they had been marketed like crazy worldwide; that would be fun/and challenging to collect! At certain points I owned 7-10 copies of many singles [since sold off].
That’s a lot of glass…
