Southeast SPUD ALERT!!

Mark Mothersbaugh © Ryan Schude

¡Mamacita! I just found out the day before yesterday that Mark Motherbaugh of DEVO is giving a lecture at nearby Western Carolina University tonight at 7:30. All spuds within the Appalachian Mountain Zone would to well to converge on the Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center at WCU in Cullowhee. I may never get to see DEVO, but we will be attending this.

Mothersbaugh will be discussing his prodigious life in art just as the amazing book he has created with his band partner Gerald Casale has just been published this summer. My copy arrived weeks ago and it is the next book in my queue after I finish chewing through that other large, orange, rubberbound hardcover in my home. Tickets for the loving public are $15 with seniors discounted at $10 and free to students/staff/faculty of WCU. More info here.

Be there. Aloha!

I was in college in Boston in those days so I was too busy to watch it when it first came on. I recently picked up the DVD set for $2.99. Frankly, I can see why it didn’t last, although I like Johnny Slash’s explanation of the difference between punk & new wave, “Totally different head, man”

KeithC – I had been reading about “I Know What Boys Like,” for a good year or two before it finally hit college radio in ’81. I loved that debut album. I played it hard as I entered college. Never heard “Bruiseology,” but that reminds me that I wanted their complete Waitresses collection. [checks price] Damnit! Waited too long! $50-60 five years later!

Sorry about that; should have known a detailed post was forthcoming. I’ve got an extra sealed CD copy of “King Biscuit Flower Hour (Live)” gathering dust if you’re interested. It’s a cutout but so is my first copy. PM me if you would like it.
