Gloryoski! The Claudia Brücken hat trick concludes today with news of her upcoming album [teased by Gavin a few weeks ago in the comments here] with Jerome Froese, scion to the Tangerine Dream legacy. Thus uniting the so-called Berlin School [of which T-Dream were originators of] with the Düsseldorf school, from which Ms. Brücken hails. Like the last album from Ms. Brücken, Cherry Red will be once again performing the honors of release. It’s called “Beginn,” and it will be released on June 15, 2018. There’s the CD format we all know and love plus an LP edition; much like the last two Brücken albums.
Brücken/Froese: Beginn UK CD [2018]
- (The) Last Dance
- Wounded
- Flight (Of) Fancy
- Cards
- Light (Of The) Rising Sun
- Whispers (Of) Immortality
- Sound (Of The) Waves
- Stars Walking Backwards
- Forevermore
- Sweet Sense (Of) Liberation
- Unbound Spaces
I don’t know what to make (of) all of those brackets, but Cherry Red does report that Claudia’s comrade in Propaganda and life, Susanne Freytag, will be adding her touches to the first single, “Sweet Sense (Of) Liberation.” They also tell us that it will be an electronic record touched with Froese’s altered guitar so I’m sure that this will sound great even though no samples have filtered upward into the light as of yet. The CD can be pre-ordered here. But wait… there’s also an LP of this title, with two bonus tracks. Normally Monk-bait of the strongest kind… except that this time there’s a catch.

Your eyes do not deceive you! Yes, the bonus tracks on vinyl only are…Fleetwood Mac covers!!! <insert stinger> Cherry Red assures us that these will be “inventive, electronic covers” of the painful Stevie Nicks <insert thunderclap> songs. I have followed Ms. Brücken on her artistic journey far and long. I can understand most of her cover choices, but I think that I will have to go my own way here and skip paying £24.99 [$35.36] for the privilege of having those two tracks in the Record Cell. Hmm. I just recalled that I still don’t have her previous album. I sometimes sound like a broken record on that issue.

Nothing can compete with the thrill of being name-checked in a post on PPM! *faints*
I am surprised that no excerpts or teasers have come out yet,I doubt many people will pre-order without at least some sort of idea of how it sounds.
I’m hoping for the best of course, though Ma Brücken’s work has been patchy for me post-Act.

Gavin – Nothing can compete with that thrill? What about this: Polly Hancock of The Popinjays just linked to my post on The Invaders/Soo Catwoman on PunkGirlDiaries!! Now it’s my turn to faint.

Was unaware of Polly’s blog, so thanks for mentioning it. Back in the distant 90s the Popinjays ran an indie club in London, appropriately called the Pop Club, they were very kind to the band I was in which was refreshing in the not very nice world of the London indie ‘toilet circuit’, so I always think of them fondly for that.

SimonH – Yeah, this was a bolt from the blue for me. I had heard nothing after “Tales From The Urban Prairie.” The PunkGirlDiaries.com blog is filled with necessary information from an obviously informed source. What was the name of your band and when were you active?

We were one of many one word bands around in the early 90s and were called Fruit. We released a couple of singles on a US label called Sunday Records. Others used the name after us!

I truly hope that CB takes those withering post flower child ballads and strikes at them with a more strident or darkly evocative tone. She managed magic with her take on The Band’s Whispering Pines – such that I can’t listen to the original at all.
All this CB talk has me playing Combined on repeat!

Aaaand here is where a subscription to Apple Music comes in handy. While i will quite happily buy the CD version, if the “bonus” tracks make it to AM … I can hear them for review purposes for approximately a fraction of a penny!

chasinvictoria – Just remember… every dollar poured into the Black Hole Of Streaming® means that a kitten is drowned somewhere! And Streaming Stevie Nicks songs…? That means a Corgi Puppy goes to bed …without any supper!

The brackets in the titles are due to Paul Morley being involved in the design, so be ready for lots of verbal nonsense on the cover.
I’m not getting the vinyl for those two cover versions. Cherry Red are saying that Sweet Sense Of Liberation will be the lead single, so if there is a digital release I would guess these two could be the b sides. Have to wait and see.

Have just received this, have only heard the first track but it sounds very promising.
Great artwork as well.

SimonH – I have been saving for trips all year and not buying much of anything this 2018. I have a trip to Los Angeles to celebrate the record collecting life of Ron Kane next month where his friends will be visiting all of his favorite stores. Hopefully, Amoeba Hollywood will have a copy. In October we see Simple Minds in Atlanta with Mr. Ware [who is also with us and chasinvictoria in L.A.] and Echorich. Much spending cash will be needed for fine dining as well as some communion with those black and silver wafers this Monk finds so enjoyable with good friends.
